Alphonse Mucha’s The Moon and Stars Series is one of my absolute favorite works from him. He made it later on in his illustrative career and it reflects a maturity in both expression and composition. Whereas many of his other pieces were commissioned for advertisements, this is an original work. The fact that Mucha created many exquisite pieces commercially was a quirk of his art career; many artists looked down on him for what they saw as bending to society’s will. Mucha’s style, now known as art noveau, swept and continues to shape the artistic world today.
